C15 cat losing prime

C15 cat losing prime, he's an OK No.3.

The issue is, this is the first post season where his role was a non-factor and he was basically a bench warmer most of the time in 3/4 of the games.

I don't disagree, and I'm not saying his career will be over after it's all sd and done. But he's in his mid 30's and was a regular starting C for his entire career. If he can't get it done at 35 years old, it might be time to move on.

But I get your point.

Agreed with both of you.

I still think he's in a very good position to come back and play some decent minutes in a few years in Toronto.

When you are a veteran in your mid 30's, it is not likely you can come back as a player and be in prime shape. I think he is in a good position for that kind of a role.

I agree that he won't make a long comeback, but a 10-15 minute a night roll, playing with 4th liners is not going to be the end of the world. Maybe it is still great enough to be able to add a few years to his career. I'm not sure. He can still be valuable, especially if he can come back for his home games.

But I would like to see some younger blood like Peverley in the C position and Gardiner (or Komisarek for that matter) move to a trade/buy-out candidate in the top 4. Maybe this could be another "Raffi" deal where a young, potential top 4 D man is acquired.

If we could get a guy like Ryan Jones, I would be a little less excited.

The guy just played so poorly down the stretch. I know what the team is about to get into but I think this is the best time to make a trade for a real center. If we get Jones or somebody like that I will be shocked. You do not get to that level without having good defense.

I agree with you on that and I'm a big fan of Jones, but I think he'd struggle in the east because he is not that good on faceoffs. I think Peverley is worth the risk. Gardiner is worth the risk as well.

Peverley on the other hand, is not a trade candidate. He won't want to play 20 games on the 3rd line. His speed and ability to take draws means that he won't be expendable. He has a very defined role and that is what he wants.

The kid has played really well for the last month. He has been great on faceoffs and is showing he can be a solid puck handler. I would be interested in seeing if the Isles could find a taker for his cap hit.

I think he was great for the last month on faceoffs, but really has been streaky his whole career. He's never been worth his contract.

Peverley on the other hand, is not a trade candidate. He won't want to play 20 games on the 3rd line. His speed and faceoff ability are his best weapons. But, if he plays his game, I think he could get 10-15 points this season and could provide us with a nice 2nd line center. If the Canes can give us Peverley, I think we should have him. But, with his injury history, he has to be an absolute lock. We'd be crazy to give up Gardiner for Peverley, even if Peverley comes back from his injury in January and then re-injures himself. It doesn't work. But, if we could trade for Peverley, which I think is a realistic option, we'd have a lot more security in net with BOB, because he is not a perfect goalie. He could make a mistake and it would be a mistake Peverley's line mates would have to step up and help him out.

What about Jokinen? I know he is a terrible defender, but he can produce. He has 6 points last season and has a great faceoff record. He can also play on the powerplay. Could he be traded to give us Josi's line mate that will also eat some minutes?

As I sd before, there are way too many people on the Canes side that do not like Jokinen. The only people that seem to like him are people that think he's going to be traded away. There are more fans that don't want him on the team than there are fans that want him here.
