What does it mean when a cat pants? This is the question the British Broadcasting Company, in collaboration with the Wellcome Trust, is hoping will be answered by using modern scientific methods, in particular the use of wearable sensors and machine learning. The BBC has recruited 100 cat lovers to monitor their pets' activities and upload their data to a website. So far the results are revealing: inactivity and being awake are the two most common states. But the research is ongoing. In the video below, presenter Sian Griffiths explains that the cats are not wearing sensors, but are wearing "witnessing" devices that are attached to their collars.
