Why is my dogs back arched?

My dog is 10 yrs old and he had one time been put in the back, he was put in the back because his mom thought he was about to roll on the floor and i just held him. But since then he is like this. The back is arched and his hind legs strght up. i am new to this, is this normal for a puppy or am i making this worse? Please help! Thanks

I'd like to think it's not as big of a problem as you may think. From what you're telling me, you held him up to "bump" him on the head when he was about to roll over, which should only have made his back more curved. If anything, a little bit of pressure on the head usually strghtens him up and he is fine. Just think of it as a reflex from the position you put him in. As he ages and gets a little older, his back will strghten up more and more, and be as normal as the rest of his body.

So if you're worried, don't worry. If he started to hurt, or do anything different at all, you should take him to the vet to get his neck checked out, but if he's just curling up in pn, it's usually nothing to worry about.

Thank you for your kind response, he has been doing really good since we brought him in 2 weeks ago, he was fine when we brought him in. He was fine the first few days here as well as the vet but for some reason now it seems to be a pn in the neck, so it may be all to just give us a scare?

He is my first and only. My son's dog, they used to share a room so I know what its like to have a dog grow up. I feel for you. All dogs deserve love and time. I am not a vet, but I would not hesitate to give the best treatment for my dogs. You will get to know your dog better and he will get better.

I had the same thing with him. He was so happy with me and me with him that it was so heart breaking to see it happen. He cried out the door so many times. I would hold him and he would cry in my arms and I just couldn't get him to calm down. He was in such a rush to be with me. I was crying too. After a week he settled down and started eating and drinking. He was fine and it didn't last.

My advice was to make him sleep in his room for a few nights. I also had to change the room because I was afrd he would try to escape agn. It took a while but he is so much better now. He has been great for the last couple of days. I guess the time off was needed.

I agree with what everyone else sd. It may take a few days for you to get use to him being home.

That's what I am getting at with this all. I think he did get more comfortable at home, but I am not sure I am comfortable yet. He really hasn't been acting right since being home. He is getting more confident being home, though.

I can't believe he is already in high school and going through this. It still has not hit me. It is really hard to go to a party/dance etc while he is home. I know everyone says to just live your life while he is home but I know I can't do that. I am a nervous wreck when he is home. This whole time I can't believe he is in high school.

Thanks so much for your comments, you have helped alot. Like I sd, I have to figure out a few things myself.

Hang in there. Just make sure that you know he isn't perfect. That's where you need to stay. If you find him wanting, then it's your job to let him know that and make sure you don't feel like you are having to take care of him because you love him, but also you do want him to try and be a man and not need you as much. Tell him that you want him to take the steps he can take to take care of himself and that if you aren't there he is going to struggle in life because you don't want to have to make up for him. But you are also going to want him to learn how to take responsibility for his actions and consequences. That's where I was in a funk, just wting for him to do something horrible. So I got a job and took care of myself until he got home at night, sometimes the next day, depending on when he got home. It really has made a huge difference in my life and I'm not afrd to take care of myself anymore. My husband and I don't have our crap together but we are working on it. It will take a lot of work and effort on both of our parts, and I'm sure it's going to get rough but I'm working towards the "best me" I can be.

I hear what you're saying and I am not saying this is easy for you. I don't know how it is for you. I have been in a similar situation and he is still at home. I am going through the same thing and if I don't feel I am doing the right things for myself, I have a tendency to be sad and down for long periods of time. I have been married for ten years and we have two boys, and I feel
