Airline Porter, Porter's Flight and Dog-Sized Imperial Porters are among the many beer varieties named after dogs. Flying Dog Brewery is an American brewery in Maryland founded by James H. Williams in 1997. The brewery is a producer of a number of craft beers that feature dog in their name, including the Imperial Pilsner Porter, Imperial Red Lager Porter, Imperial Pilsner Pale Ale Porter, Pumking Porter, Blood &, Sugar Saison, the Blood &, Guts Belgian Style Ale, and the Blood &, Guts Belgian-Style Stout. The company was the top-selling craft brewery in the United States from 1997 to 2009.

Description

Flying Dog Brewery produces a number of beer varieties named after dogs, and some specifically named after dogs. These beers, particularly the Imperial Pilsner Porter, are popularly regarded as among the most aggressive-flavored porters.

Airline Porter: A Porter with a 7.9 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) and an aroma of "dried flowers and dried apricots".

Porter's Flight: A Porter with a 7.5 percent ABV and a "bluish-amber" color. This beer was originally named Porter's Flight and Porter's Run, and has been known by those names since the 1980s.

Dog-Sized Imperial Porter: A double-imperial (double-batch-processed) beer, usually brewed in October. This beer's name derives from a contest organized in the early 1980s to decide on the name of the beer. The contest winner was "Doggy Dog-Size Imperial Porter".

Imperial Pilsner Porter: A dark lager with a 7.5 percent ABV, and a "crisp, fresh-cut grass" aroma. Originally called "Pit Stop Porter", this beer is named for a nearby dog food shop.

Bucktooth Porter: A Porter with a 7.4 percent ABV, dark amber in color, and a "sweet apple, fresh-cut grass, citrus and floral aromas".

Kelp Porter: A Porter with an alcohol content of 7.5%, pale amber in color, with a sweet aroma of "bitter chocolate, sweet citrus and floral aromas".

Eddie St. Pilsner: A Porter with an alcohol content of 7.7% and a "smooth, malty beer with fresh-cut grass and bitter citrus flavors" with a "creamy mouth feel".

Hound Dog Porter: A Porter with an alcohol content of 7.8% and is "dark and creamy with a deep, rich berry flavor". This beer is "smooth with a hint of sweetness".

Budha Porter: A Porter with an alcohol content of 7.8% and is "dark, creamy and has a hint of chocolate and smokey aroma".

Food: There is a brewery tour and picnic in the grounds. The grounds also have a gift shop and a beer garden. The owners of this brewery have plans for expanding the tasting room and building additional beer gardens.
