Diapers for dogs in heat

Diapers for dogs in heat - Do you use them?

Yes. I use the Houdini Diapers for the dogs in heat. I use the puppy pads that come with the litter. You can do this for any dog in heat. I personally would not do it unless you are planning on having a puppy and just getting started.

Why I do it...Because it is just something you need to do if you have got dogs in heat.

My experience of doing it...I usually have a bit of a problem with the puppies not getting all the way in, and this is so the puppies do not get cold.

I just get them all in first then I cover them with a towel that is warm from my house.

What are the advantages of doing it...

The main advantage is that you can also use it in a couple of weeks when you are planning on having puppies, this way you don't have to worry about buying a big box to store them in.

Do you think you could ever do it without your dogs being in heat?

They could, I have got two dogs in heat at the moment and this time of year, usually all three of them are in heat, and I would do it for them but I would not for my puppy.

Yes and I think they will need to be in a pen (doggy ork) until it is too late. They will go into heat at the same time, if I wasnt doing this i'd put the puppies into a pen and take them out of the house in small amounts.

I'll have to ask the vet about the big box. It does need a good deal of space.

You could put your female dogs in a small box (small dogs can be kept together, or you could get your local pound to do it for you) with a couple of small chew bones, then put in an electric blanket and give her hot water bottles and food. Some people put in a cage, or even just a box and close the lid. If your female dog was in heat for a couple of days before hand you may want to keep the male away from her in a small shed until the female is no longer in heat.

Also as long as they stay in a pen, there are not likely to be many fights among the litter. They will play together.

Also think about how to keep your male from playing with the litter, or your dogs will start to fight, this should be sorted out.

I've done it twice, and it works well. I would suggest not putting your animals (especially small animals) into a deep freeze, so you can actually see what they look like and check on them.

You might want to check out this thread at a forum for Ork Orchid breeding...I use this method and love it. If you are concerned about having it done right before you bring your puppies home, I would say go ahead and have it done. (there is a lot of room to make mistakes in the house!)

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know about that thread. I do need the whole thing done but I don't want to do it over the weekend before I bring my puppies home. I was planning on just having the dogs in the house but if I can make it work I will do it. I haven't told my husband about it yet but I hope I can. I am going to try to save the whole house as it is a wreck now. I am on the first floor, 2 rooms downstairs, a bathroom and bedroom upstairs.

Thanks for the link. I'll look into that but I don't want to start the
